Role Purpose

The Driver Apprentice will undertake the Commercial Driving Apprenticeship Programme (CDAP), combining professional HGV driver training with hands-on experience in transport operations and the company workshop. This role will prepare the apprentice for a long-term career as a qualified HGV Driver.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete structured training towards HGV (C & CE) licences.
• Assist with daily vehicle checks, loading/unloading, and safe securing of goods.
• Learn and apply safe, fuel-efficient, and professional driving techniques.
• Shadow experienced drivers on delivery routes to gain practical knowledge.
• Gain workshop experience with company mechanic, learning basic servicing, maintenance, and defect reporting.
• Follow all health, safety, and compliance requirements.
• Develop customer service and communication skills at delivery and collection points.
• Accurately complete delivery notes, logbooks, and inspection sheets.
• Participate fully in all apprenticeship training, assessments, and mentoring.

Requirements

• Full clean Category B licence.
• Strong interest in professional driving and logistics.
• Reliable, safety-conscious, and willing to learn.
• Good communication, teamwork, and timekeeping skills.
• Commitment to completing the CDAP apprenticeship.
